Lions star Jones may miss start of season

Monday, June 29, 2009, 08:00

LIONS star Adam Jones could miss the start of next season after having surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

The Ospreys tight-head suffered the injury after a collision with Bakkies Botha in Saturday's gripping second Test in Pretoria.

Jones could face up to 12 weeks on the sidelines, forcing him out of action until the end of September.

It was a cruel end to the tour for Jones, who was called in to stabilise the Lions scrum for the second Test and responded by giving Tendai 'The Beast' Mtawarira — the man who exposed Phil Vickery a week earlier — a torrid time at the set-piece.

Fellow prop Gethin Jenkins also had surgery after cracking a cheekbone.
